The Akyem Kotoku Traditional Council has condemned the attitude of the Attafuah faction of the chieftaincy divide for illegally installing a new paramount queenmother for Akyem Kotoku, to replace Nana Akua Asantewaa III, who they claim is dead.
According to the traditional council, Nana Asantewaa was not dead as they alleged, saying that she was receiving treatment at a medical facility in Accra.
Addressing a news conference at Oda last Monday, members of the traditional council, led by the Omanhene, Oseadeeyo Dr Frimpong Manso IV, took turns to speak against the illegality by the Attafuah faction and urged the police to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to book, to restore peace in the area.
Some of the divisional chiefs, including the Krontihene, Obrempong Gyamfi Saforo Kyereh; the Gyaasehene, Obrempong Kwasi Amo Kyeretwie; the Benkumhene, Obrempong Sintim Poku; the Akwankyerehene, Obrempong Kwame Akomeah, and the Awosohene, Obrempong Dr Kwasi Sasu, stressed that the Omanhene was the only person mandated to install a paramount queenmother for Akyem Kotoku.
They, therefore, called for the institution of severe sanctions against the miscreants to serve as a deterrent to other bad nuts in society.
Press briefing
Briefing the Omanhene, the other chiefs and the media, Obrempong Saforo Kyere said in the afternoon of Sunday, March 29, 2026, he had information that the Attafuah faction was installing a new paramount queenmother at Oda Old Town, so he led some youth to the venue to verify the authenticity of the situation.
He said if the irate youth had not been restrained, they would have turned the peace into bloodshed.
According to Obrempong Saforo Kyere, he lodged a complaint with the Oda Municipal Police Command to stop the illegal installation, arrest and prosecute the perpetrators.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Omanhene, Oseadeeyo Dr Frimpong Manso, seriously condemned the illegality by the Attafuah faction, stressing that it was unheard of in the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area.
He was, however, happy that the entire traditional rulers were behind him.
The Omanhene admonished the people in the traditional area not to do anything to revisit the protracted chieftaincy dispute that divides the people and hinders the development of the area.
He stressed the need for them to cherish the prevailing peace, unity and tranquillity in the area and contribute their quota towards the rebuilding of a better and prosperous Akyem Kotoku State.
Lasting peace
“Now that lasting peace has been restored in the traditional area, my major preoccupation is to mobilise all available human and material resources to accelerate the progress of the area,” he emphasised.
The senior sister of Nana Akua Asantewaa, Obaapanin Akua Brago Diawuo, also spoke at length to advise the people in the traditional area to embrace the prevailing peace, unity and tranquillity in the area to realise the needed development.
