Alleged National Security Fraudsters in Trouble After Community Sets Trap

Three men, including two who falsely presented themselves as National Security operatives, have landed in police custody after allegedly extorting money from illegal miners at Asamang in the Central Region’s Assin North District.

The suspects, identified as Nana Kwame (popularly known as “Money Fresh”), Daniel Amoako Arthur (alias “Rasta”), and a sprayer named Cobbinah from Assin Bereku, were arrested on Monday by officers from the Ghana Police Service’s Central North Command.

Their arrest followed weeks of suspicion by residents, who had observed the trio’s questionable conduct at a known galamsey site. Community members eventually confronted the men during one of their visits and detained them, suspecting them of using fake security credentials to intimidate and extort miners.

Two pump-action shotguns were retrieved from the suspects during the arrest. The men reportedly admitted that the firearms had been taken from one of the illegal mining sites, and they had held onto them ever since.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Abraham Acquaye confirmed that none of the three could produce valid identification proving they were affiliated with National Security. With the help of alert residents, the men were initially handed over to police in New Edubiase, Adansi South District, due to proximity.

They were later transferred to the Central North Regional Police Command at Assin Fosu for further investigations. DCOP Acquaye stated that all three are cooperating with the police and are expected to face charges soon in court.
