The tranquil atmosphere of Somé Senior High School in Agbozume was disrupted by a shocking revelation as the matron and bursar were apprehended on suspicion of stealing food supplies destined for boarding students.
This apprehension came after an investigation launched by assembly member Ibrahim Ayuba, prompted by growing concerns of ongoing theft within the school’s premises.
The alleged theft, believed to have persisted over an extended period, was brought to light when intercepted items, including tin tomatoes, mackerel, detergents, and insecticide spray, were found concealed in the possessions of the matron and the bursar. Prompt action followed, leading to their arrest by local law enforcement authorities.
Presently, both the matron and bursar find themselves in police custody at the Agbozume police station, where they face interrogation and potential charges for their purported involvement in the theft of school resources. This development has stirred outrage among community members and stakeholders, who demand transparency and accountability in the management of school supplies.
Established in 1966, Somè Senior High School, located in Agbozume, has a rich history dating back to its founding by the Agbozume Scholars Association (ASA). Originally named Agbozume Secondary School (AGBOSCHO), the institution operated as a Private Community Institution until March 27, 1973, when it received a temporary certificate of registration as a secondary school (Reg. No. VR/2/) under the Ghana Education Service.
Transitioning into the public school system on October 11, 1977, the school was officially absorbed with the registration number VR/P1/21/23 under the name Somè Secondary School (SOSEC). The school’s motto “tso nakle” (Arise and Shine) embodies its commitment to fostering excellence and leadership among its students. Mr. T. S. Avugla served as the first public headmaster (Acting), overseeing the school’s transition and early development.
