Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin is the Minority Leader in Parliament

The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has appealed to the Majority to create more space for the Minority to actively participate in parliamentary business as the House resumes sittings.

Speaking at a leadership media briefing ahead of Parliament’s return on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, Afenyo-Markin stressed the importance of inclusivity and open engagements in legislative processes, saying the Minority must be given a fair opportunity to advocate its positions.

“We believe that in this meeting, the Majority should be more accommodating. They must hear us and allow the Minority to do more advocacy. We also expect the Speaker to admit more of our motions,” he said.

According to him, parliamentary democracy thrives when all political stakeholders are given space to participate fully in deliberations.

“The essence of parliamentary politics is to give every party stakeholder an opportunity. As Parliament resumes, we are looking forward to deeper engagements and more constructive exchanges on the floor of the House,” Afenyo-Markin added.
