Anlo Dwom fire outbreak: KMA pledges support for victims

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, KMA, has expressed regret about the devastating fire outbreak that occurred at the Amakom Market, commonly known as ‘Anlo Dwom’ yesterday, Monday 26th January 2026. This incident, the KMA has noted, has caused significant loss to traders whose goods, livelihoods, and years of hard work were destroyed. 

In a Statement signed and issued by the Head of Public Relations of the Assembly, Henrietta Aboagye, noted that the tragedy goes beyond the destruction of property; as it represents a painful setback to hardworking men and women who depend on the market to care for their families and contribute meaningfully to the local economy of Kumasi. 

It assured that, the KMA is working closely with relevant agencies to assess the extent of the damage and explore appropriate interventions to support the affected traders and that further updates in this regard will be communicated as engagements progress.

“We urge all affected traders to remain calm, united, and cooperative as we work together to identify sustainable solutions. KMA also reiterates its commitment to strengthening safety measures in markets across the metropolis to help prevent future occurrences.

In this difficult moment, we encourage all affected persons to take strength from our collective solidarity. You are not alone. The Assembly stands with you, and together, we will work towards recovery, resilience, and hope”, the statement said.

The KMA urged all affected traders to remain calm, united, and cooperative as key stakeholders work together to identify sustainable solutions. 

The statement reiterated KMA’s commitment to strengthening safety measures in markets across the metropolis to help prevent future occurrences. 

It said the Assembly stands with all those affected, assuring that together, they will work towards recovery, resilience to engender hope in this period of grief and difficulty. 

The statement commended personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service for their swift response and professionalism in bringing the fire under control, as well as all individuals and institutions who supported the emergency efforts, adding that their dedication helped to prevent further damage and loss.

It expressed the heartfelt sympathy of the Metropolitan Chief Executive and the entire KMA, to all affected traders and their families.
