The Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri and Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh
The Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri and Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has alleged some high-ranking officials within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been sending him threatening messages.
He claims these messages are intended to intimidate NPP MPs who have been engaging with cocoa farmers, aiming to discourage them from continuing this interaction.
He stated this at Manso Odumase in the Manso Edubia district on the third day of the Minority Caucus’ tour of cocoa-growing communities in Ashanti Region.
Frank Annoh-Dompreh said “when we were on our way here for the third day of our interactions with you, the farmers, members of the NDC have been sending messages threatening to kill us if we do not cease our engagement with you.”
In backing his claims, he refers to an incident at Bonkrom on the second day of their tour, where some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) allegedly planned to instigate chaos during the caucus’ engagement with cocoa farmers in the Ahafo Ano North district.
Some leaders of the ruling NDC allegedly organised a meeting with farmers at the same venue and on the same day as the caucus’ meeting, which almost led to a clash and escalated tensions in the area.
The lawmaker stated that there was a significant security presence at Bonkrom in the Ahafo Ano North district due to attempts by NDC members to disrupt their interaction with the farmers.
He further stated that none of the members of the minority caucus, particularly those participating in the tour, are intimidated by threats from officials of the ruling party.
“We undeterred by the threats and will persist in engaging with the cocoa farmers, as they are the ones who can provide firsthand information about the impact of the cocoa price reduction,” he stated.
Frank Annoh-Dompreh urged the government to consider selling three of the four helicopters it has acquired and allocate the funds to settle payments owed to cocoa farmers.
He emphasized that this is necessary because farmers are the backbone of the country’s economy, and it’s unacceptable for them to be struggling while government officials enjoy luxuries.
The Minority caucus delegation has visited Atwima Mponua, Ano South West, Ahafo Ano South East, Ahafo Ano North, Bosome Freho, Asante Akyem North, Asante Akyem South, Asante Akyem Central, and Manso Edubia constituencies, as part of the 20 cocoa-growing districts.
