The President, Aburi Girls’ Old Students Association 1999 Year Group (AOGA ’99), Euphemia Serwaa Afful Asante, has led members to donate assorted items to the Ark Foundation Ghana to support vulnerable women and children.

The group presented items, including bags of rice, cooking oil, mackerel, diapers, sanitary products, detergent, bar soap, milk, Milo, soft drinks, blankets, towels, fabrics, thrift clothes, books, toys and an iron.

The gesture, to mark International Women’s Day, which was on the theme: “Give to Gain”, formed part of the group’s commitment to giving back to society and uplifting women.

She said the initiative reflected the association’s focus on community impact and support for women in distress.

She said the group remained committed to using its network to improve lives and promote well-being.

Supporting a cause

Receiving the items, the Programmes Manager, Ark Foundation Ghana, Ewurabena Jones, expressed gratitude to the group for the timely support.

She said many survivors of domestic and gender-based violence often did not have anywhere to turn to.

“We provide shelter, counselling, training, family legal advice and psychosocial support for women and children who are being abused,” she said.

Shelter and rehabilitation

She further explained that the foundation’s shelter remained its core service, offering care and protection for victims.

“We feed them three times a day, we provide educational, medical and counselling support,” she said.

She added that the foundation had been equipping survivors with vocational skills, such as soap making, beadwork and baking, to help them rebuild their lives.

Ms Jones said the foundation handles complex abuse cases, including minors, often referred by the police and social welfare.
