Archbishop Breaks Silence on Mahama’s Surprise Visit to Akufo-Addo at Kwahu

During a Sunday sermon on April 27, 2025, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, the founder of Action Chapel International, addressed growing backlash following a recent high-profile encounter between former President John Mahama and ex-President Nana Akufo-Addo in Kwahu over the Easter break.

The visit, though seemingly cordial, stirred controversy among some National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters who believed Mahama should have avoided such a gesture.

Critics claimed that the meeting undermined party loyalty and sent the wrong message during a politically sensitive time.

However, Archbishop Duncan-Williams used his platform to challenge that narrative. He urged the public to refrain from interpreting every interaction through a partisan lens.

According to him, the visit was a show of mutual respect between two national figures—not a political statement.

He emphasized that his role as a spiritual leader is to pray for national leaders, not to influence political decisions.

The Archbishop reminded Ghanaians that recognizing former leaders as statesmen is a cultural value that must be preserved, regardless of political allegiance.

He also cautioned against allowing political rivalry to erode basic values such as respect for elders and unity. In his view, condemning Mahama for honoring Akufo-Addo reflects a growing trend of politicizing actions that should be seen as symbols of peace and maturity.

The Archbishop’s remarks have reignited national discussions about unity, leadership, and how politics continues to shape public perception in Ghana.
