Renowned Ghanaian preacher and founder of Perez Chapel International, Archbishop Dr Charles Agyinasare, has added a new academic milestone to his distinguished career, graduating with excellence with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Business from Transcontinental University, Malta.
The achievement marks a significant evolution in the Archbishop Agyinasare’s profile, cementing his position not only as a global leader in spiritual life but also as a scholar in leadership, organisational development, and business strategy.
Dr Agyinasare’s doctoral journey culminated in a high-level graduation ceremony at the GTEC Hall in Accra on Saturday, March 28, with high-ranking government officials, renowned clergy and other officials in attendance.
His dissertation was titled, “Exploration of leadership influence on contemporary claims of divine healing and miracles: Focus on a global evangelist from Ghana”.
Archbishop Agyinasare was not alone in this academic feat.
The doctorate programme, which attracts senior executives, professionals and global leaders, is known for its rigorous structure, combining advanced coursework, research, and practical leadership modules.
Four other Ghanaians also graduated as part of the same cohort, highlighting Ghana’s growing presence in global executive education.
The others were Ballu Mamudu, Lutfah Issah, Lutfia Saeed Jamal and Andrews Ayiku
Academic excellence and global recognition
Dr Agyinasare’s was singled out for distinction among his peers.
His performance drew commendation from faculty and academic supervisors, who praised his intellectual depth, discipline, and ability to bridge theology with practical leadership and business frameworks.
According to university officials, his research and academic engagement reflected exceptional analytical insight and real-world applicability, particularly in areas of leadership transformation and institutional growth.
President of the Transcontinental Institution of Higher Education, Malta, Ted Sun, commended Dr Agyinasare for his exemplary scholarly work which demonstrates an extraordinary integration of theological insight, leadership science, organizational development, and socio-cultural analysis.
In addition to this landmark dissertation, he was pleased that Archbishop Agyinasare had further distinguished himself through significant peer-reviewed publications, including articles published with RSIS International’s IJRISS journal and the AJOPS journal.
“Archbishop Agyinasare’s scholarly journey stands as a testament to intellectual depth, practical relevance, and a lifelong commitment to transformational leadership,” he said.
For his part, Professor of Business at the Transcontinental University, Donald T. Iannone, noted that, “Charles’s work shows he grasps that effective ministry leadership is never just inspiration; it is also sound architecture: clear strategy, ethical accountability, and measured use of charisma to build trust rather than dependence, especially in settings where testimonies, healing claims, and global visibility create both opportunity and responsibility”.
He continued,” Watching him integrate scholarly precision with pastoral imagination convinced me that his blend of academic formation and compelling, people-centered leadership will strengthen the integrity, reach, and long-term health of the global movement he leads”.
Again, Professor Lloyd C. Williams, Chief Academic Officer at Transcontinental Institution of Higher Education, Malta, praised Archbishop Dr. Charles Agyinasare for being an outstanding doctoral learner.
He said Dr. Agyinasare brought to the field of Business Development and Leadership a world view, infused with theological, cultural, historical, charismatic, ethical, strategic, service, and a willingness to balance leadership through multiple cross-cultural lens in Africa, Europe, the Americas and Asia.
“It was an honor to work with him in his doctoral journey”.
Dean & Professor of Business at Transcontinental Institution of Higher Education, Malta, Thomas Grisham, noted, “As a PhD student of mine, Archbishop Agyinasare, dedicated himself to the hard work of achieving the highest standards of doctoral scholarship and academic excellence. He demonstrated the ability to understand and interpret the research and then apply it to the needs of his congregation and acolytes, Perez University College, faculty and staff. When it was time to embark on his dissertation, he again devoted himself to understanding global thinking to help improve the lives of those he serves.
“Few succeed when their research spans academic knowledge areas, spirituality, and the natural world. Archbishop Agyinasare did succeed, with aplomb, in his exploration of leadership and miracles. One of the best papers it has been my privilege to read”.
President John Mahama and Chief Justice Baffoe-Bonnie commend achievement
In a special message to mark the occasion, President John Dramani Mahama, in a speech delivered on his behalf by former Finance Minister Seth Terkper, commended the Archbishop for his dedication to lifelong learning and national development, noting that such achievements reinforce Ghana’s reputation as a hub of excellence and leadership on the continent.
The President emphasised the importance of combining moral leadership with intellectual growth, describing Dr Agyinasare’s accomplishment as an inspiration to both the clergy and the professional community.
“This PHD in Business is not merely a personal achievement: it is a national asset,” he stated.
Similarly, Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, the guest of honour, in remarks delivered at the ceremony, underscored the role of education in shaping ethical leadership and national transformation. He praised the Archbishop for being a leader grounded in both values and knowledge and being an example for others.
A message of resilience and lifelong learning
In his valedictory reflections, Dr Agyinasare highlighted the demands of the programme, noting the discipline, sacrifice, and perseverance required to complete the doctoral journey.
“It was earned through long hours of reading, writing, revising, and rewriting. The journey demanded at least 90 essays or discussion posts of no fewer than 500 words each; at least 12 short papers of a minimum of 1,000 words each; about 10 reflection journals of 500 words each; 10 module projects of 3,000 words each with peer-reviewed citations; and 10 oral presentations—culminating in a 371-page dissertation and its oral defence.
“It was earned through difficult questions, honest feedback, and the humility to begin again when necessary.
“It was earned while balancing rigorous scholarship with ministry, leadership, service, and responsibility,” he said.
Archbishop Agyinasare thanked his wife, family, academics, colleagues and friends for their support in reaching this new milestone.
“As we leave this institution, let us remember: education is not for decoration; it is for transformation.
Let us not wear our degrees merely as titles, but as responsibilities. Let us use what we have learned to solve real problems, to build ethical institutions, to serve humanity well, and to leave every place better than we found it”.
Beyond the pulpit: A new dimension of leadership
In the landscape of African Pentecostalism, few figures command as much respect for both spiritual fervour and intellectual rigour as Archbishop Charles Agyinasare.
A national award winner and a “Frontier Missionary Statesman,” Archbishop Agyinasare has spent over forty years evolving from a local evangelist into a global prelate whose influence spans 96 nations and multiple sectors of public life.
As the Founder and Prelate of Perez Chapel International, his journey is not merely a story of church growth, but a blueprint for transformational leadership and national development.
Archbishop Agyinasare entered full-time ministry in 1983, a pivotal era for the charismatic movement in Ghana. In 1987, he founded the Word Miracle Church International, now known as Perez Chapel International. What began as a local mission has blossomed into a global powerhouse with a presence in 26 countries.
His reach is amplified by Precious Television, which he has led since 2013, and Agyinasare World Evangelism, a vehicle that has taken his message to diverse cultures across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas. In recognition of his decades of service, he was elevated to the office of Archbishop in 2022.
Unlike many of his contemporaries, Archbishop has balanced the pulpit with a relentless pursuit of academic excellence. He holds a PhD in Business from the Transcontinental Institution of Higher Education, Malta, and an MBA in Human Resource Management from Tanzania Open University.
His theological foundations are equally deep, holding a Master’s and Doctorate in Theology from the Christian Life School of Theology Global, USA, and a Diploma from All Nations for Christ University in Nigeria. This rare combination of business acumen and theological depth has allowed him to lead complex institutions with the same precision he uses to deliver a sermon.
The Archbishop’s footprint extends far beyond Sunday services. He is a prolific institution-builder, having founded:
-Perez University College: Where he serves as Honorary Chancellor.
-Agyinasare Leadership Institute: Training leaders across Francophone Africa and the Philippines.
-The Agyinasare Foundation: A family-led initiative that provides 100 university scholarships annually to brilliant but needy students and covers hospital bills for the destitute.
-The Cancer Project: A specialized initiative he has chaired since 2021 to combat the disease in Ghana.
In 2024, his leadership was further recognised when he was appointed President of the Bible Society of Ghana, following a ten-year tenure as the 1st Vice President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC).
With over 80 publications to his name, translated into languages as diverse as French, Japanese, and Urdu, Archbishop Agyinasare is a major contributor to global Pentecostal scholarship. His recent academic work has turned toward the intersection of faith and societal issues.
His published research includes a religious approach to combating Galamsey (illegal mining) and studies on “Servant-Leadership” in divine healing. Notably, his upcoming publications address difficult internal institutional hazards, including “Terrorists of Leadership,” an organisational framing of leader sexual misconduct, and studies on burnout among faith-based workers.
The Archbishop’s influence has been consistently validated by external bodies. In 2007, he was awarded the Member of the Order of the Volta by the Republic of Ghana. Internationally, he has received the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award from the USA (2023) and was named the 20th most influential person in Ghana in a major 2015 poll.
Married to Rev. Mrs. Vivian Agyinasare, with whom he shares four children and six grandchildren, the Archbishop continues to mentor a new generation of leaders.
Whether through his board service at Central University or his leadership at FirsTrust Savings & Loans, Archbishop Charles Agyinasare remains a definitive voice for ethical, transformational, and spirit-led leadership in the 21st century.
