The Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has cleared the path for the final enstoolment rites of Prof Benjamin KD Asante as the Paramount Chief of the Juansa Traditional Area.
The former Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Gas is expected to swear allegiance to the kingmakers soon.
Hindrance
The King, on January 12, 2026, heard how one royal identified as Yaw invoked the Great Oath against the Queen, accusing her of receiving request drinks and yet failing to give him the stool.
He is said to have further contested the royal status of the stool nominee. The invocation came after the needed enstoolment rites had been performed.
While reporting the issue to the Asantehene, traditional leaders designated to oversee the enstoolment rites, said they dismissed the oath as vain after finding it meritless.
Clarity
Otumfuo, while schooling the young royal about tradition, explained that the fact that the drinks were received by the Queen affirmed her acknowledgement of his royal status.
“Traditionally, she took your request alongside the traditional drinks to affirm that she recognises you as a royal. Rejecting it would have meant she had doubts about whether you are a royal.”
His Majesty also stressed that accepting requests which come along with a traditional drink did not enjoin the Queen to choose the applicant for the stool.
“A Queen reserves her rights to choose whoever she pleases to ascend a male stool. You acted wrongly by invoking the Great Oath.”
Rather than invoking the Great Oath, Otumfuo suggested using a petition to advance his grievances.
“I will pardon you this time,” Otumfuo added.
The Asantehene further gave directives for the stool nominee to swear allegiance to his kingmakers and vice versa.
