The Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has offered a large tract of land to the government for a proposed second National Theatre in Ghana.
This was disclosed by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, at the first Akwasidae Festival of the year held at the Manhyia Palace on February 1, 2026.
He made the disclosure while expressing appreciation to His Majesty for the enormous support to the government.
It may be recalled that the Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, announced plans to construct a second theatre while reading the 2026 budget last year.
He stated that site acquisition and design work would begin this year.
The project is envisioned to serve as a hub for creativity, talent development, and cultural exchange, contributing to both economic growth and national identity.
“The construction of a national theatre in Kumasi reflects our commitment to making arts and culture accessible to all Ghanaians,” Dr Forson told Parliament.
