Ghana’s entertainment world is set to pause in solemn tribute as fans prepare for the one-week observation of highlife icon Charles Kwadwo Fosu — better known as Daddy Lumba. The event will take place at the University of Ghana (Legon) Sports Stadium on Saturday, August 30, 2025, offering the public a final chance to honour the man whose music shaped decades of Ghanaian culture.
The announcement was confirmed by DL FM and follows a press briefing from the Ekuona Royal Family of Nsuta, Daddy Lumba’s maternal lineage. According to the family head, the Abusuapanyin, the Accra observance will make it easier for fans nationwide to attend before the final funeral rites in Kumasi.
Plans for the funeral were finalized after the family’s formal visit to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, who reminded them of the singer’s royal heritage. In keeping with Ashanti tradition, the body will be formally presented to the King as part of the burial process.
While the one-week gathering will be in Accra, the grand funeral will take place in Kumasi — the Ashanti regional capital — where his royal roots will be honoured. The family also intends to meet with the Ga Mantse in Accra to formally announce Daddy Lumba’s passing and the funeral schedule.
The Legon event is expected to draw thousands — from devoted fans to music industry greats — all united to remember a man whose catalogue of hits has become an enduring soundtrack of Ghanaian life.
