The Management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) says the educational fraternity holds itself out in confidence, dignity, and self-assurance due to the formidable backing it receives from the Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Celebrating its Chancellor on the occasion of his 27th Anniversary on the Golden Stool, the Vice Chancellor led a high-powered delegation from KNUST to join thousands at Dwabrem, Manhyia Palace on April 26, 2026.
Addressing the gathering after paying customary homage, the Vice-Chancellor underscored the Asantehene’s centrality to the university’s identity and progress.
“This is the Asantehene’s university, and we have come to render homage,” he said. “As we mark this special day, we extend our heartfelt wishes and appreciation to His Majesty. As we mark this special day, we extend our heartfelt wishes and appreciation to His Majesty.”
She prayed for longevity and health for the King, saying, “May he be blessed with long life and divine favour.”
Today’s Akwasidae
For the first time in 27 years, the 16th Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, marks his enstoolment anniversary on Akwasidae, the sacred festival of the Asante Kingdom.
This year, April 26 — the exact date His Majesty ascended the Golden Stool in 1999 — falls on the 3rd Akwasidae of 2026, creating a historic overlap between personal reign and ancestral tradition.
As a result, the Akwasidae Festival is being observed with exceptional grandeur, with all paramountcies within Asanteman in attendance.
Nananom, government officials, diplomats, and thousands of Asanteman citizens have filled the palace forecourt to pay homage.
