A devastating building collapse in Ashaiman’s Community 22 on Saturday morning resulted in the tragic loss of 46-year-old carpenter Kwesi Yobo Dankwa. Four others were trapped but miraculously rescued and rushed to Tema General Hospital for medical attention.
The incident unfolded at approximately 10 am when the building’s beams suddenly collapsed, pinning the workers underneath.
The swift response of residents, firefighters, NADMO, and police personnel made the rescue possible. The trapped workers were extricated from the rubble and taken to the hospital for treatment.
The deceased carpenter, Kwesi Yobo Dankwa, was said to have been called to work on the building for the first time that morning. His death has left his family and colleagues in shock and grief.
The cause of the collapse is still unknown, but some residents suspect that the recent heavy rains may have weakened the building structure. The assembly member for the area, Kudovor Kenneth, revealed that he had previously cautioned the workers and requested a permit for the two-story building.
The incident has raised concerns about building safety and regulation in the area. The authorities have promised to investigate the cause of the collapse and take necessary actions to prevent such incidents in the future.
The community is still reeling from the shock of the tragedy, and the family of the deceased is calling for support and assistance in their time of grief.
