Asiedu Nketiah Says Looted Funds Are Being Quietly Returned Under ORAL

Asiedu Nketiah Says Looted Funds Are Being Quietly Returned Under ORAL
  • NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah claims some former officials accused of embezzlement are quietly refunding state money through the Attorney General’s Office.
  • He credits President Mahama’s new anti-corruption initiative, Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL), for triggering the repayments.
  • ORAL is designed to gather evidence of corruption and forward it to state institutions—not to investigate or prosecute directly.
  • Asiedu Nketiah warned that repayment alone won’t absolve offenders, hinting at future punishment.
  • President Mahama insists ORAL is not a witch-hunt but a central hub for corruption-related intelligence.
  • The initiative marks a bold shift in Ghana’s anti-corruption strategy under the current administration.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is turning up the heat on corruption, and according to party chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the pressure is already yielding results. Speaking during his “Thank You” tour, Asiedu Nketiah revealed that some former government officials accused of misappropriating public funds have begun quietly returning the money through the Attorney General’s Office.

He attributed the development to President John Dramani Mahama’s newly launched anti-corruption drive, Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL), which aims to centralize evidence gathering and channel it to appropriate state institutions for action. The initiative, unveiled earlier this month, is not an investigative body but a clearinghouse for tips, reports, and documentation related to financial misconduct.

Asiedu Nketiah made it clear that repayment won’t shield culprits from consequences. He suggested that once the funds are returned, the government will decide on appropriate punishment, stressing that without ORAL, many would have escaped accountability.

President Mahama has positioned ORAL as a transparency tool, not a political weapon. He emphasized that the committee receives information through various channels—texts, calls, and intermediaries—and serves as a focal point for corruption-related intelligence.

The revelations have stirred fresh debate about Ghana’s approach to corruption, especially as the Mahama administration seeks to distinguish its governance style from previous regimes. With ORAL now operational, the political temperature around accountability is rising—and the message is clear: the days of looting with impunity may be numbered.
