Legal Practitioner Zakaria Tanko Musah has called for a transparent, independent, and unbiased investigation into the alleged assault on artist Ibrahim Mahama, insisting that justice must be done without any form of favouritism.

‎Speaking in an interview on GTV Breakfast Show on Monday March 23, 2026, he stressed that although investigations are ongoing, the process must remain open and credible to ensure public trust.

‎He explained that the Police Professional Standards Bureau will look into possible misconduct by officers, while the Northern Regional Police Command is also handling a criminal investigation into the alleged assault.

‎He noted that regardless of who committed the act, assault remains a criminal offence and must be treated as such under the law. He added that while security officers are permitted to use reasonable force in self-defence, such actions must be justified and proportionate.

‎Lawyer Musah also dismissed suggestions that the incident may be linked to the victim’s name, stating that “Mahama” is a common name in Islam and should not be a factor in the matter.

‎Touching on reports circulating on social media, he said although the victim has been seen with visible injuries, including a bloodied face, it is important not to rush to conclusions about who was responsible. He emphasised that facts must be established through proper investigations.

‎‎He further raised concerns about conflicting accounts, particularly claims involving a “Black Maria” police team, noting that such units were reportedly withdrawn from the Northern Region, which raises questions that must be clarified.

‎Mr. Musah concluded by urging authorities to make the final report public and ensure that any individuals found culpable face appropriate sanctions. He stressed that violence is unacceptable in the line of duty and that accountability must be upheld at all times.
