Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine has described his appointment as Ghana’s Attorney General as a profound honour, though not a surprise, citing years of legal, parliamentary, and governmental experience that prepared him for the role.

Speaking on Starr Chat, hosted by Bola Ray on Thursday, January 15, 2026, Dr Ayine expressed deep gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the confidence reposed in him, noting that the appointment carried both privilege and responsibility.

“When the President appointed me as Attorney General, it meant a lot to me, and I am truly grateful to him for the privilege and honour,” he stated.

Following the National Democratic Congress’ defeat in the 2016 general elections, Dr Ayine noted that he remained actively involved in the party’s legal and parliamentary work.

He explained that he served as a key legal adviser, offering guidance to the party and its Members of Parliament throughout its years in opposition.

“From 2017 until we won the election, I was more or less advising the party in Parliament and the party itself on legal matters,” he said.

Dr Ayine emphasized that his elevation to the Attorney General position was the culmination of years of deliberate preparation rather than a sudden promotion.
