Ghana’s Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has disclosed that a recent acquisition of heavy-duty printers for the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) came directly from his personal finances.

This clarification became necessary when the Public Accounts Committee questioned whether EOCO was benefitting from donations or financial assistance from sources that had not been officially sanctioned. The committee’s inquiry followed a review of support streams to security and investigative institutions.

Dr Ayine explained that the situation arose shortly after he took office. EOCO leadership reportedly informed him that there were no available printers to handle essential documentation and case-related printing. With no immediate budgetary allocation available, he opted to pay for six printers himself to ensure the office’s operations did not stall.

He stressed that his intervention was not tied to any private entity and therefore posed no issues of influence or inappropriate relationships. According to him, the contribution was purely a practical solution to a pressing need so the agency could keep functioning effectively.

His remarks were aimed at reassuring the committee and the public that EOCO continues to operate without dependence on external private funding, which could otherwise raise concerns about neutrality and institutional integrity.
