Professor Amevi Acakpovi, Vice-Chancellor of Accra Technical University, has advised newly admitted students to uphold the tenets of academic integrity to ensure success in their studies.

He cautioned them against any form of malpractice and urged them to respect the University’s regulations to ensure a successful academic journey.

Speaking at a matriculation ceremony in Accra on Saturday, Professor Acakpovi said 18,000 students had been admitted out of 27,795 applicants for the 2025/26 academic year due to infrastructure challenges.

The students are to pursue programmes in Master of Technology, Bachelor of Technology, Higher National Diploma, Diploma and certificate courses.

Professor Acakpovi said 70 per cent of the newly admitted students were enrolled in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics programmes, exceeding the national benchmark of 60:40.

He urged the students to participate in leadership and skills exhibitions, saying, “Your degree will open doors, while your character will keep them open.”

The Vice-Chancellor advised them to build roots before seeking recognition and to master their skills before aspiring to titles.

He encouraged them to remain focused and grow beyond themselves in their academic pursuits, stressing, “Education is not only for employment; it is for impact.”

Professor Acakpovi said the University was addressing its infrastructure deficit by constructing a five-storey building, which was nearing completion.

“We have developed another eight-storey building seeking funds to increase our hostel capacity,” he said.

He appealed to the Government and philanthropists to support the University in constructing additional lecture halls and hostels to enable more students to access quality education.
