Ayawaso East vote-buying: Party will take decision after committee findings – NDC

Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rashid Tanko Computer, has assured that the party will take appropriate action after receiving the findings of the committee investigating alleged vote-buying during the Ayawaso East parliamentary primaries.

Speaking in an interview on Joy FM’s Top Story, Mr Tanko said the party has confidence in the committee’s work and urged supporters to remain calm while the process is completed.

“As a political party, we believe in the committee that we have set to deliberate on this matter and present its report.

“We are appealing to our supporters, activists and senior party members in the constituencies to hold their horses and allow the committee to finish its work, present its report tomorrow, and then the party will come out with its decision,” he stated.

Mr Tanko was responding to questions about whether the NDC would have the political will to annul the election if the committee recommends such action, even in the face of opposition from traditional authorities in the area.

However, he declined to speculate on the outcome, insisting that the party would wait for the committee’s conclusions. “Let them bring their report first,” he said.

He further expressed confidence in the calibre and credibility of the committee members, noting that the chairman’s experience in top government and party positions should assure the public of a fair and truthful process.

“If he is chairing a committee, you don’t expect him to come out with nothing but the fact and the truth,” he added.

The committee was set up following allegations of inducement and vote-buying during the party’s Ayawaso East primaries, which have sparked public debate and raised concerns about internal electoral integrity.

The committee is expected to submit its report by Tuesday, February 10, after which the NDC says it will announce its next steps.
