Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin is the Speaker of Parliament
Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has called for a more inclusive political culture in Ghana, warning that democracy is weakened when power is treated as the prize for only election winners.
During the launch of the Political Inclusion and Consensus Building Project on February 19, 2026, Bagbin said the health of any democracy depends on how well it represents all citizens, not just those aligned with the winning side.
“Democracy weakens when winner takes all. Democracy triumphs when all voices articulate the national course,” he told participants.
Bagbin urged political actors to move beyond partisan interests and work towards consensus on key national issues.

He said inclusion and dialogue are essential if Ghana’s democracy is to remain stable and responsive to the needs of its people.
According to a report by metrotvonline.com on February 20, 2026, Bagbin said that people must feel seen, heard and represented regardless of how they voted.
According to him, elections should not divide the country into permanent camps of winners and losers, but rather serve as a platform for collective nation building.
“Democracy is strongest when everyone feels represented, not only those who win elections,” he said.
The Political Inclusion and Consensus Building Project is aimed at encouraging collaboration across political lines and strengthening trust in the country’s democratic institutions.
