Prominent activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor, the driving force behind the #OccupyJulorbiHouse and #FixTheCountry movements, has garnered media attention for his outspoken backing of social media commentator and blogger Bongo Ideas, who is allegedly facing arrest.
Barker-Vormawor remarked in a widely reported statement that he will always stand out for people’s rights, no matter who they are or where they come from. “These are my values,” he said, going on to say that he was willing to protect Bongo Ideas despite the fact that they had been mocking him for decades.
The attorney’s remarks coincide with reports that Bongo Ideas was taken into custody for allegedly making fun of the First Lady.
Barker-Vormawor did not hold back in denouncing any possible abuse of official power and emphasized that anyone feeling defamed should go to court rather than relying on state coercion. This included the First Lady.
A family member said that Bongo was arrested on Thursday morning at about two in the morning by a person posing as a police officer. There were several police stations in Accra where we looked for him, but his name was nowhere to be found in official records.Below is the post:
These are my values. Even if Bongo ideas had been insulting me for 30 years; I will still show up and advocate for him if the State abducts him at night for talking uncharitably about the First Lady.
The First Lady is not God. If she feels defamed, she can go to court. Not use…
