Malik Basintale addressing YEA staff after returning to work

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale, has for the first time addressed rumours of his death and being bedridden from a stroke.

Malik Basintale reacted to these rumours after returning to work on January 13, 2026, following some weeks of absence.

Addressing the staff of YEA, the CEO did not deny the rumours that he had been seriously ill.

He only asserted that every human being is bound to fall sick, and he is no exception.

“We are back – back to work. I keep saying that we are all human beings, and so long as I have flesh and blood running through my veins, at any point in time, anyone can fall sick.

“It is part of nature that you can be sick, you can be healthy,” an upbeat Basintale said.

He added that; “And so when I hear people saying, ‘Basintale is sick, Basintale is dead’ and all of that, anybody can die. You can die, I can die. Anybody can fall sick. With death, it has got nothing to do with how mighty or how powerful one is; only Almighty Allah determines when you die (sic).”

In November 2025, Basintale, who is also the Deputy National Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), was rumoured to be sick with a stroke.

Reports on social media suggested that the YEA CEO, who had not been seen in the limelight for weeks, was seeking medical treatment in London.

However, in a post shared on Sunday, November 16, 2025, Basintale refuted the rumours, describing them as “fake news.”

He said that he was not sick with a stroke and had not travelled to the capital of the United Kingdom.

“Kurugu Toli: ton ton je!! Ignore the false news… No stroke, no London!” he wrote on Facebook.
