Former Vice President and NPP flagbearer aspirant, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has voiced concern over divisive remarks from some opponents in the ongoing flagbearer contest. During his Western Region campaign tour, he noted that certain rivals have labeled him as an outsider, dismissing his long-standing contributions to the party.

He described these attacks as rooted in tribalism, warning that such behavior threatens unity within the party and the nation. Bawumia highlighted the diverse origins of the NPP, tracing its formation to the merger of multiple regional and ideological groups, including the Northern People’s Party, National Liberation Movement, Muslim Association Party, Togoland Congress, and Anlo Youth Organisation.

Emphasizing the importance of respect and cohesion, he urged party members to reject exclusionary rhetoric and embrace the NPP’s tradition of inclusivity and mutual respect. Bawumia argued that leadership in the party should reflect its multi-regional heritage rather than succumb to divisive political tactics.
