The Damongo MP, John Abu Jinapor, says the time has come for delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to reward former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for his years of service and sacrifice to the party.
According to him, Dr Bawumia has made significant personal and professional sacrifices that demonstrate his deep loyalty to the NPP and its cause.
“The NPP rewards leaders based on service, sacrifice, and loyalty. Dr Bawumia has truly toiled for this party,” the former Lands Minister said.
Mr Jinapor noted that the former Vice President had the credentials to pursue a high-profile international career but chose instead to commit himself fully to the NPP.
“Dr Bawumia could have been a distinguished international public servant. He could even have risen to the level of a UN Secretary-General, but he sacrificed all that for the NPP,” he stated.
He made the remarks when Dr Bawumia’s campaign team visited the Bantama Constituency as part of activities ahead of Saturday’s election.
Mr Jinapor also pointed to what he described as sustained attacks against Dr Bawumia, saying no other politician within the party has endured as much vilification and still remained focused and committed.
“Beyond the older generation of politicians, there is no one who has been vilified as much as Dr Bawumia. Even in this primary, you can see how he is being attacked,” he said.
Addressing delegates in Bantama, the Damongo MP urged them to carefully consider Dr Bawumia’s vision, humility, commitment to unity, and focus on national development, and to give him the nod as the NPP’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
He also cautioned delegates against tribal politics, warning that some individuals were attempting to exploit ethnic sentiments to influence the outcome of the contest.
Mr Jinapor stressed that the longstanding unity between the Northern and Ashanti regions must be preserved.
“Ashanti and Northern Ghana are one. We have always stood together. Let us show that same unity in this election. If Dr Bawumia is on the right course, then he deserves the support of Ashantis,” he said.
He concluded by pledging strong support for Dr Bawumia in his constituency and expressed confidence in securing a decisive victory for the former Vice President in the Bantama Constituency.
