Former Vice President and NPP presidential hopeful, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has promised to give every constituency a stronger voice in national governance should he become president.

According to him, a future NPP government under his leadership will introduce what he calls “One Constituency, Ten Appointments,” ensuring that each constituency gets at least 10 national-level appointments.

Dr Bawumia said the move is meant to strengthen the party’s grassroots structures and make governance more inclusive, explaining that constituencies will be allowed to nominate qualified and deserving individuals who can also help drive development at the local level.

Speaking in a message to delegates ahead of the NPP presidential primary scheduled for January 31, 2026, he urged them to support his vision of building constituencies that are “resilient and sustainable.”

“My plan is to strengthen all constituencies in Ghana to be resilient and sustainable,” he said, adding that “most of the time, some constituencies are left out in the appointment process.”

He added that he plans to dedicate 3,000 out of 7,000 national appointments to constituencies across the country.

These appointments, he noted, will include positions such as ministers of state, deputy ministers, CEOs and deputy CEOs, ambassadors and deputy ambassadors, as well as board memberships.

Dr Bawumia also cautioned that under his leadership, appointees who fail to deliver will be removed.

“Appointees who will perform abysmally will be replaced with competent ones,” he stated.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is contesting the NPP flagbearer race along with Kennedy Agyapong, Ing Kwabena Agyepong, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Dr Bryan Acheampong.
