New Patriotic Party flagbearer hopeful, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed appreciation to his campaign team and key party stakeholders as provisional results from the party’s presidential primary indicate that he is leading the race, with more than 50 per cent of votes counted nationwide.

Speaking at his campaign office in Accra on Saturday, January 31, as results from various constituencies began arriving, the former Vice President described the contest as an intense nationwide campaign, stressing that his strong showing was the result of collective effort rather than individual endeavour.

“Let me thank all of you. We’ve gone through a journey. It’s been a fierce battle that we’ve waged across the country, across all the regions, and we couldn’t have gotten here without the support of the team around me,” Dr Bawumia said.

He paid tribute to members of his campaign structure, singling out the National Campaign Coordinator, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, and the Campaign Manager, Fred Opare Ansah, for what he described as dedicated leadership throughout the primary season. Dr Bawumia also acknowledged the role played by Members of Parliament who publicly endorsed and worked for his bid.

The flagbearer hopeful further extended his gratitude to party executives at all levels, the Electoral Commission, security agencies and the media, noting that their collective contributions had helped ensure an orderly and credible internal election.

Reflecting on the party’s history, Dr Bawumia honoured past leaders of the New Patriotic Party, including Prof Adu Boahen, former President J A Kufuor and former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, crediting them with laying a strong foundation for the party’s development over the years.

“It is really humbling that I have been elected to continue the work they started,” he said, while also recognising the sacrifices and contributions of former Members of Parliament to the party’s growth.

Provisional results from several constituencies across the country show Dr Bawumia in the lead in a number of key strongholds, placing him firmly ahead of his challengers as vote collation continues and the party awaits the declaration of final results.
