Johnson Asiedu Nketia, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has appealed to party supporters who are yet to receive government appointments to remain calm, emphasizing that opportunities under the current administration are limited by constitutional provisions.
Addressing party faithful at Winneba in the Effutu Constituency on Thursday, February 12, Asiedu Nketia acknowledged the growing frustrations among some members following the party’s return to power. He explained that the Constitution places restrictions on the number of appointments the President can make, making it impossible to accommodate every deserving party member at once.
“I am aware that some of you are unhappy because you did not get to be appointed to any position upon our return to power. This is understandable. It is the reason why I am embarking on this ‘Thank You Tour’, to explain issues for your understanding,” he said.
According to him, the number of appointments permitted under the Constitution does not allow the government to satisfy all expectations.
“The challenge is that, given the number of appointments that the constitution permits President Mahama to make, not all members of the NDC can be taken care of. So be patient. There is no need to be angry with the party,” he added.
Asiedu Nketia urged members to avoid anger and public criticism, encouraging them instead to channel their grievances through established internal party structures.
He noted that constructive engagement remains the most effective means of addressing concerns and maintaining party unity.
The NDC chairman is currently touring the Central Region as part of the party’s post-election engagements aimed at strengthening internal cohesion.
