Former Member of Parliament for Kwahu Afram Plains North, Betty Krosbi Mensah Syeram, has challenged young women to stop waiting for opportunities and instead prepare themselves to become “undeniable” in leadership.
Speaking as a guest at the TEIN–African University College of Communications (AUCC) Women’s Wing summit, held under the theme “Young Women in Politics: Positioning for Leadership, Visibility and Impact,” Ms Mensah urged participants to actively equip themselves for leadership roles within the party and beyond.
“If leadership opportunities were handed to you today, would you be truly ready or merely interested?” she asked.
Emphasising the importance of capacity building, she noted that leadership begins now — in classrooms, student groups, and communities — not only in Parliament or government.
“Opportunities do not change people. Prepared people take up opportunities,” she said, encouraging young women to be informed, confident, and intentional in their pursuits.
Drawing from her own experience, Ms Mensah recounted entering Parliament at the age of 32, where she initially felt invisible among more seasoned leaders but worked to make her presence count.
“Stop waiting to be chosen. Start preparing to be undeniable,” she added.
Ms Mensah, who currently serves as Senior Technical Advisor to the Minister for Youth and Sports and National Coordinator for the National Recreation and Wellness Programme, also encouraged participants to build both skills and social capital rather than relying solely on financial resources or waiting for support.
