The Member of Parliament for Biakoye in the Oti Region, Jean-Marie Formadi has emerged as a beacon of hope for young footballers in her constituency.
Over the past few months, she has spearheaded initiatives like organizing local tournaments that attract top football officials to scout emerging talents.
These events aim to provide the youth with real opportunities to chase their dreams, bridging the gap between grassroots passion and professional pathways.
Speaking on GTVSports Plus’s File Show, Formadi reflected on the regrets of older players who missed similar chances in their prime. “It’s a great pity for some good players that age has caught up with them and knowing how well they could play,” she said.
The response from the community has been overwhelming, with young talents eagerly embracing the program. “We still have the young ones there and we thank God that they have really embraced it,” Formadi noted.
Highlighting her recent tournament organised she said, observers were stunned by the turnout, which rivaled major matches. “We were surprised to see a lot of people there. And I don’t think if you have been watching football, more is here,” Formadi added. “And I know they will confess that the park was full.”
Even compared to lower-division league games, the crowds stood out. “Even some divisions, when they are playing, they don’t get such people on the field,” she affirmed.
Through these efforts, Formadi is not just unearthing talents but reigniting football fervor in Biakoye.
