A significant tactical shift has emerged in the race for positions within the Ghana Boxing Authority after Dave Bishop officially withdrew from the contest for 1st Vice President to pursue the office of 2nd Vice President instead.

The decision, announced by his campaign team, immediately reshapes calculations ahead of the GBA elections and signals what insiders may interpret as a strategic recalibration rather than a retreat.

According to a statement released by the campaign, the move followed extensive consultations, reflection and advice from close associates and trusted figures within the boxing fraternity.

Strategic move

Far from presenting the decision as a setback, the Bishop camp framed the switch as a deliberate long-term strategy aimed at strengthening his influence and relationships within Ghana boxing.

“This strategic move will allow us to deepen our relationships within the boxing community and let our actions and service to Ghana boxing demonstrate our commitment and competence,” the statement explained.

The wording of the statement suggests a campaign seeking to reposition itself as a unifying and service-driven force at a time when governance, credibility and structural development remain major talking points within Ghana boxing.

While no further explanation was offered publicly for the withdrawal from the 1st Vice President race, the campaign made it clear that Bishop’s ambitions within boxing administration remain firmly intact.

The team also moved quickly to reassure supporters that the broader mission behind the campaign had not changed despite the altered electoral route.

Expressing appreciation to campaign backers, the statement acknowledged the loyalty, energy and commitment invested in the initial bid and appealed for continued support ahead of the contest for the 2nd Vice President position.
