Reggae artiste and broadcaster Blakk Rasta has sparked heated debate after suggesting that two of Ghana’s biggest music icons, Shatta Wale and Sarkodie, are too frequently linked to individuals who later become embroiled in criminal investigations.
Speaking on his Blakk Empire Media platform, he argued that the recurrence of their names in conversations about alleged fraudsters is not accidental. Blakk Rasta believes that some criminals exploit high-profile entertainers as a convenient way to project legitimacy and move suspicious cash through the entertainment space.
He pointed to several high-profile cases that gained public attention — including that of former National Signals Bureau boss Kwabena Adu-Boahene, businessman Kofi Boat who reportedly encountered FBI action, socialite Hajia4Reall also facing allegations abroad, and another figure known publicly as Dr Sledge. In all of these instances, he noted that Shatta Wale’s name surfaced in public discussions surrounding the accused persons.
According to Blakk Rasta, the flamboyant display of riches in Ghana’s showbiz industry raises further questions. He argued that money tossed into crowds during public performances and the flashy lifestyle portrayed online may not always have transparent origins. Sarkodie, he added, is also frequently mentioned in such conversations even though he is believed to be more conservative with his wealth.
Blakk Rasta insists the industry must confront these recurring associations and interrogate whether unexplained affluence is being fueled by links to individuals facing criminal scrutiny.
As his commentary spreads across entertainment circles, it has revived broader concerns about the influence of financial crime on the music industry and the reputational risks that follow Ghana’s most celebrated artistes.
