Blakk Rasta, a well-known reggae musician and radio host, has revealed that he was the target of death threats after performing at the Nkrumahfest concert, held in Nkroful on September 21.
The event paid tribute to Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and his contributions to the nation’s development.
During the concert, Blakk Rasta performed a song that sharply criticized African leaders for their governance and corruption.
Although he had initially planned to deliver a speech, audience pressure led him to sing the song, which quickly sparked widespread attention.
The message of the performance was a call for African leaders to change their ways if involved in corrupt practices.
Following the performance, Blakk Rasta reportedly started receiving threatening calls from anonymous sources. T
he situation escalated to the point where event organizers felt the need to increase security at his hotel.
While Blakk Rasta’s critique was general and not directed at specific individuals, it appeared to resonate with some in a negative way.
The Nkrumahfest concert aimed to honour Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s legacy and his role in shaping Ghana’s future.
“I wasn’t even supposed to perform the song there.”
“I had planned to give a speech, but the audience kept asking for me to perform something, so I sang it. By the evening, it was all over the place. It was a message to African leaders – if you’re corrupt, it’s time to change.”
“People started calling me from untraceable numbers, making threats. The organizers had to increase security at my hotel.”
“I’m not saying who is corrupt and who isn’t. But if the shoe fits, wear it.”
