Ghanaian broadcaster and entrepreneur Nat Kwabena Adisi has been honoured with the African Media Icon Award at the 2026 African Heritage Awards held in Accra, in recognition of his longstanding contribution to media development on the continent.
The ceremony, organised by Heritage Times and convened by Moses Siasia, brought together prominent figures from across Africa to celebrate excellence in leadership, media, entrepreneurship and cultural advancement. Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, attended as the Special Guest of Honour.
The awards scheme, which is being hosted in Ghana for the first time, recognises individuals whose work is shaping Africa’s narrative and influencing global perceptions of the continent.
Receiving the award, Bola Ray reflected on his nearly three-decade journey in broadcasting, describing it as both fulfilling and transformative. “What an incredible journey. Next year will be 30 years since I got into the media as a student on campus, and it’s been a wonderful one.”
He emphasised that the recognition extended beyond personal achievement, acknowledging the broader community of African storytellers and creatives. “Tonight, I am deeply honored to receive the African Media Icon Award. This recognition is not just for me, but for every storyteller, every voice, every dreamer in the African media and beyond.”
The media executive also highlighted the critical role of the industry in shaping public discourse and driving change across the continent, noting that the influence of African media continues to grow globally.
He dedicated the award to his colleagues and team members over the years, particularly those at EIB Network, where he oversees a network of radio and television platforms. “I dedicate this award to my incredible team that I’ve worked with over the years, and of course, to the team at EIB Network, handling, managing, directing, coordinating seven radio stations and two TV stations, not just in Ghana, but globally.”
Bola Ray also expressed appreciation to his family, especially his wife, Dorcas, for their continued support throughout his career.
The African Heritage Awards is a pan-African initiative aimed at recognising individuals making significant contributions to the continent’s growth and identity across various sectors, including governance, innovation and community development.
The 2026 edition underscored Africa’s diversity and talent, bringing together influential personalities committed to advancing the continent’s global standing.
Concluding his remarks, Bola Ray reaffirmed his commitment to promoting African stories on the global stage. “To God be the glory for the great team that I have and everyone out there supporting to elevate the African story to the world stage.”
