Bronyibima Estate: Department of Social Welfare Takes Temporary Custody of Dumped Newborn Baby

The Department of Social Welfare have taken temporary custody of a day-old baby that was abandoned around Bronyibima Estate in the Central Region.

The baby is receiving medical attention and is reported to be in a stable condition, the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP) confirmed in an update.

The Ministry assured the public that the baby’s overall well-being remains a priority, and appropriate arrangements have been made to ensure the baby is well catered for.

It further disclosed that the Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare, are investigating the identity and location of the mother or any close relatives.

Commending community members who rescued the baby, it appealed to anyone with information to assist the ongoing investigation.

Meanwhile, it directed parents or guardians facing challenges to seek support through appropriate social welfare services in situations involving unplanned or crisis pregnancies through the Ministry’s Helpline of Hope Call Centre on its toll-free lines 0800-800-800/0800-900-900.

It emphasised that abandoning a child is a serious violation of their rights.
