Speaking to a section of delegates, Dr. Acheampong argued that Bawumia’s electoral performance in the 2024 general election was underwhelming, claiming the Vice President failed to secure a single constituency in seven regions. He also criticized Bawumia’s promise to deliver Zongo votes, stating that the party lost in nearly every Zongo community except Effutu Zongo.

“Dr. Bawumia did not win a single constituency in seven regions. In the Western Region, he managed to secure only one constituency with fewer than 500 votes,” Acheampong said. “He promised us Zongo votes, but we lost in every Zongo community except Effutu Zongo.”

Positioning himself as the candidate with broader grassroots appeal and regional strength, Acheampong warned that the NPP risks another electoral defeat if it fails to choose a flagbearer with proven mobilization power.

His comments come as the party gears up for a high-stakes leadership contest, with internal debates intensifying over who can best reposition the NPP for victory in 2028.

Meanwhile, Acheampong’s claims have sparked pushback from other party figures. Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku, a fellow NPP member, has publicly challenged the accuracy of Acheampong’s remarks, presenting data that shows Bawumia won several Zongo polling stations across the country — including one in Acheampong’s own constituency.
