On Thursday, February 26, 2026, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), and Colonel Richard Akotoh, Training Director of the Ghana Armed Forces Sports Directorate, met with a group of demonstrators at the Accra Sports Stadium in a bid to ease escalating tensions.

The demonstrators, identified as members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), said their protest was triggered by reports that the NSA Board Chairman, Dr Fred Awaah had asked the Director General to revoke the appointments of seventeen (17) staff members engaged under his administration.

The affected individuals who are largely cleaners and security personnel expressed concern over the possible loss of their livelihoods and gathered at the Stadium to register their displeasure.

Eyewitnesses say the Director General spent several minutes addressing the group and urging restraint, assuring them that no immediate dismissals had been effected.

Management sources clarified that after a meeting involving the Director-General, members of the Governing Board, and Sports Minister Kofi Adams, the Minister asked the Authority to submit detailed employment and staff records to ensure proper procedures and administrative regularisation.

As part of that process, all affected staff are expected to reapply in accordance with established public service procedures.

The situation at the stadium has since normalised, with operations continuing without disruption.
