Rapper Okintoe, regarded as one of the most influential rap artists in Ghana’s Central Region, has spoken out about alleged unfair treatment of local musicians at the Central Music Awards.
In an interview with Kofy Jesse TV, Okintoe expressed frustration over what he described as unequal compensation and poor event management.
He revealed that Central Region-based musicians were paid as little as GHS 2,000 for performances at the recently concluded awards ceremony. In stark contrast, artists invited from other regions, particularly Accra and Kumasi, reportedly received significantly higher fees.
According to Okintoe, this discrepancy highlights a broader issue of bias and mistreatment towards musicians based in Cape Coast and surrounding areas. He criticised the event’s management, claiming that poor organisation negatively affected the performers’ experiences.
The rapper’s comments have sparked renewed discussions about fairness and transparency in Ghana’s regional music industry, with many calling for organisers to address these concerns to ensure equal opportunities for local talent.
