The Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has urged Vulux Construction Limited, the contractor working on the Cape Sea Defence Project, to increase the pace of work on the project to ensure that the 2028 completion timeline is met and subsequently handed over to the communities.

With work done estimated at 31 per cent, following the commencement of the project in September 2024, the Minister said the government cannot afford to watch on while the coastal communities are being exposed to the vagaries of sea erosion.

The Minister was interacting with engineers on the project during a working visit to the project to assess the progress of ongoing works.

Ghana’s 550-kilometre coastline remains increasingly vulnerable to sea erosion, worsened by climate change variability and rising sea levels.

The Cape Coast Phase II project forms part of sustained sector interventions to protect coastal communities from these growing threats.

The 5-kilometre sea defense project is expected to be completed by September 2028. When completed, it will provide critical protection for the coastal communities of Ekon, Duakro, and Moree, preserving lives, property, and economic activities.

“My presence here at this site and other sites I have visited to see things for myself reaffirms the government’s strong commitment to delivering climate-resilient infrastructure that responds to the needs of our coastal communities,” Mr Adjei added.
