Former Tema West MP, Carlos Ahenkorah, has dismissed suggestions that he has thrown his weight behind a specific candidate in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries, despite a widely circulated audio clip fueling such claims.
The one-minute clip, which went viral on social media, led many to believe he had endorsed one of the contenders. Ahenkorah confirmed that the voice in the recording was his but explained that the audio had been taken out of context. He revealed that the clip was a “cut-and-paste” portion of a much longer 40-minute interview he granted on Okay FM, where he spoke extensively on issues including the cocoa syndication loan and the strengths of the various aspirants.
According to him, the full interview made it clear that his conclusion was not about sidelining any candidate but rather identifying Bryan Acheampong as the one capable of uniting the party. He pointed out that Acheampong’s ability to bridge internal divisions makes him the best candidate to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections.
Ahenkorah stressed that presenting only a fragment of his interview was misleading and created a false impression of endorsement. He cautioned against such distortions, arguing that they harm meaningful political debate.
Reaffirming his stance, the former MP declared that Bryan Acheampong remains his preferred candidate due to his unifying posture and strong leadership qualities.
