The Christian Council of Ghana (CCG), in collaboration with the Maxwell EQUIP team in the country, has organised a three-day leadership training programme to equip church leaders with practical and transformational leadership skills to influence both the church and society.
The partnership is intended to contribute to a gradual transformation in the country, particularly within the church.
The three-day programme focused on building leadership capacity through practical, value-based and transformational models.
The event brought together staff of the Christian Council of Ghana and selected participants from member churches, including the Presbyterian, Methodist and Evangelical Presbyterian churches.
Event
Speaking at the event last Thursday, the General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, Rev. Dr G. K. Fayose, said the training was necessary because leadership underpins all aspects of life.
“This is a collaboration between the Christian Council of Ghana, the John Maxwell Institute and the EQUIP team here in Ghana.
This event is necessary because it’s about leadership.
And leadership is everything. Leadership affects all other things.
So, we thought it was necessary to collaborate with them to train church leaders in how to practise good leadership.
Leadership that will lead to the transformation of themselves and also the people that they lead. So that’s why we had this programme,” he said.
Rev. Dr Fayose explained that participants were drawn from within the council and its member churches.
“This is actually for just members of the staff of the Christian Council of Ghana.
But within an enclave, we have the Presbyterian Church, the Methodist Church and the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, diocese and presbyteries within which we are. We also invited them to bring a few persons.
So that’s how we brought these leaders. Because our room is not too big.
We can’t bring a lot of people here.
The idea is that when we are trained, we also go out and train other people,” he said.
Partnership
The Lead for EQUIP Ghana, Bernard Quarm, said the initiative formed part of efforts to drive national and church transformation through leadership development.
“I think this initiative that has gone on between CCG and Maxwell Equip is something that is going to set a tone for gradual transformation within the overall country, especially within the church.
“We are really excited about it, especially to partner on this end.
And we’re hoping that from here, most of the stakeholders that got the opportunity to embark or take part in this occasion will maximise it and use it for the benefit of the community,” he said.
Mr Quarm stated that the training would have a ripple effect across society due to the wide reach of CCG.
