Fresh evidence has surfaced in the ongoing corruption case involving former National Signals Bureau (NSB) Director-General, Kwabena Adu Boahene, and his wife, Angela Adjei Boateng.
The Accra Human Rights Court was presented with CCTV footage that allegedly captures Boateng moving several suitcases, believed to contain foreign currency, shortly after her husband’s arrest.
The prosecution, led by Deputy Attorney General Dr. Justice Srem Sai, argued that the footage suggests an attempt to conceal crucial evidence related to the investigation.
The case revolves around claims that Adu Boahene misappropriated funds from a $7 million cyber defence contract awarded by the Ghanaian government to Israeli firm RLC Holdings Limited in 2020.
Investigators allege that within days of the contract’s approval, GH¢27.1 million was transferred from the NSB’s Fidelity Bank account to a private UMB account belonging to BNC, a company jointly owned by Boahene and his wife.
Reports suggest that the funds were subsequently funneled into real estate acquisitions both in Ghana and overseas.
As the legal battle unfolds, the couple’s defence team sought to challenge the bail conditions imposed on them.
The court ruled to lower Adu Boahene’s bail from GH¢120 million to GH¢80 million, requiring two sureties, including one with justifiable assets. However, his wife’s bail remains unchanged at GH¢80 million.
Both defendants are also required to report to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) three times weekly, with additional movement restrictions in place.
Prosecutors have raised concerns that the couple may attempt to flee the country, citing the possibility of them holding foreign passports aside from their Ghanaian documents.
The case has generated widespread public interest due to its implications for national security and governance transparency.
Further investigations will determine the full scope of the alleged financial misconduct and its impact on Ghana’s security infrastructure.
