Staff of the Regal Film Festival and Awards (REFFA), alongside a host of Ghanaian celebrities, turned the streets of Accra into a vibrant fitness arena last Saturday as they embarked on a health walk to promote active living and wellness.

The initiative, which attracted over 100 participants, blended fitness, entertainment and community engagement, underlining REFFA’s commitment to encouraging healthier lifestyles within the creative industry and beyond.

Setting off from the organisation’s office at Kanda, participants navigated a lively seven-kilometre route through some of the capital’s key streets, supported by personnel from the Ghana Police Service, GTI Health Clinic, RIVIA Clinics, Golden Parani and Impression Eye Care, as well as a brass band that injected energy and rhythm into the exercise.

The route took the group from Kanda through the Kanda Strip to Christ the King Church, onto Switchback Road and onward to Aviance via the Aviation Social Centre Road. From there, the procession moved to the Airport Roundabout before heading back towards 37, where music and cheers from onlookers spurred participants on to the finish back at Kanda.

Stars lead charge

The walk was given a strong celebrity presence, with veteran actor Fred Amugi, James Gardner, Roselyn Ngissah, Christina Awuni, Gloria Sarfo and Gadede Segbefia among those who joined REFFA’s Executive Director, Selassie Ibrahim, to lead the exercise.

Also present were Ken Fiati, Monica Awinbono, Omari Dwamena and filmmaker Daniel Adjokatcher, alongside young creatives and supporters who added colour and enthusiasm to the event.

Following the walk, participants engaged in an extensive aerobic session and received practical fitness guidance from professional instructors, reinforcing the day’s core message of sustained health and wellbeing.

Speaking after the event, Ms Ibrahim praised participants for embracing the initiative and emphasised its broader objective.

She revealed plans to scale up the initiative with a larger edition scheduled for the Ashanti Region in August to mark the organisation’s anniversary, signalling REFFA’s intention to expand its wellness advocacy nationwide.

Health meets community

Participants welcomed the initiative, calling for more regular fitness activities to promote healthy living. The event concluded with health screenings, including checks for blood pressure, blood sugar, eye health and Body Mass Index (BMI), offering practical insights into participants’ wellbeing.

The REFFA Awards, which celebrate excellence in film and creative talent across Africa and the diaspora, held their maiden edition last December. Organisers are already gearing up for an even bigger showcase later this year.
