- Four men—including two Chinese nationals—have been arrested for posing as soldiers and robbing illegal miners in Amadaa, Ashanti Region.
- Armed with AK-47s and military gear, the group reportedly held miners hostage and made off with cash.
- The operation was allegedly masterminded by a local miner known as Simon, who remains on the run. The case has now been escalated to the Ashanti Regional Police Command.
A brazen robbery disguised as a military operation has rocked the mining town of Amadaa in the Atwima Mponua District. Four suspects—two Chinese nationals and two Ghanaians—were arrested on September 3 for impersonating soldiers and robbing illegal miners at gunpoint.
According to police reports, the group stormed the site armed with two AK-47 rifles, a military knife, and handcuffs. They held the miners hostage and seized large sums of money before being apprehended by the Nkawie Divisional Police Command.
But the twist? The entire operation was allegedly orchestrated by a miner known only as Simon. Police say he gained the trust of his colleagues, posed as an informant, and even tried to defend the suspects when they were caught. Once his cover was blown, Simon vanished—and a manhunt is now underway.
The case has been transferred to the Ashanti Regional Police Command due to the involvement of foreign nationals. Residents of Amadaa say the suspects were familiar faces in the community, adding another layer of betrayal to the already shocking crime.
As investigations deepen, authorities are urging the public to assist in locating Simon, whose role in the heist has turned him into one of the region’s most wanted men.
