Church of Stories is returning with another audio drama after their groundbreaking debut, Goodbye Gold Coast.

The new drama series, The Gold Coast Darlings promises to immerse listeners in a world of political intrigue, subterfuge, and the vibrant sounds of 1950s Accra.

It is 1956 in Gold Coast. A few weeks to the elections, which set the tone for independence a year later. Directed by Joewackle J. Kusi, the six-part show follows a young gifted singer, Sika, who is convinced by Bombay, a charismatic band manager, to leave Sunyani for the capital city, where she is promised a life of stardom.

After Sika runs afoul of the law in Accra, Eoin and Victoria, ambitious agents of the Crown, seize this opportunity to incite trouble for The Widow: the owner of the all girl-band, The Gold Coast Darlings – a vengeful woman with a score to settle with Gold Coast’s political elites.

Co-written by Joewackle J. Kusi and Fui Can-Tamakloe, The Gold Coast Darlings is both a gripping political thriller and a love letter to history, sound and musicians of the time.
