President John Mahama has called for a greater presence of religious leaders in Ghana, stating that their influence is crucial in addressing societal challenges.
During a meeting with the clergy in Kumasi on 2nd March 2025, the president praised the role of religious institutions in shaping morals and values.
He acknowledged that Ghana continues to face issues of crime and social disorder, but he believes the situation would be far worse without the guidance provided by churches and other faith-based organisations.
Mahama assured the clergy that his government is actively working to curb crime and maintain law and order. While security measures are being strengthened, he stressed that religious leaders also play a critical role in instilling discipline and shaping the mindset of the youth.
The engagement with the clergy is part of the president’s wider efforts to collaborate with various sectors of society.
His comments have since sparked discussions on the role of faith-based institutions in governance and national development, with some agreeing that their impact extends beyond spiritual matters into social transformation.
