The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has officially directed its members to embark on a nationwide strike starting Monday, March 9, 2026.

The directive was issued on March 5, 2026 and signed by Executive Secretary Isaac Bampoe Addo, instructing all staff within the Civil Service and Local Government Service to “stay at home until further notice”.

The notice, addressed to the Head of Civil Service, the Head of the Local Government Service, regional secretaries of CLOGSAG, and all members of the association, stated that the decision was taken after the union had earlier served notice of its intention to embark on an industrial action.

In June 2025, CLOGSAG issued a two-week ultimatum to the government, threatening industrial action if the negotiated salary structure was not enforced.

As recently as March 4, 2026, CLOGSAG reiterated its opposition to partisan appointments within the services, specifically citing illegal staff transfers at the Births and Deaths Registry.

The Minister of Labour, Jobs and Employment, Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, recently appealed to the union to halt the strike, claiming the action “took the government by surprise”. He acknowledged that the matter had been discussed with the Finance Minister therefore urged members of CLOGSAG to “believe the promise”. However, CLOGSAG remains unmoved, citing a lack of a concrete roadmap for resolution.
