A Member of the Council of State representing the Volta Region, Gabriel Tanko, has commended the President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama, for his visit to Fuveme to assess the impact of recent tidal waves on coastal communities.

According to him, he joined the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu; the Volta Regional Chairman of the NDC, Mawutor Agbavitor; the Member of Parliament for Anlo, Richard Kwami Sefe; and the District Chief Executive, Sandra Seyram Kpedor, to receive the President and his delegation.

Mr Tanko noted that the visit provided the President with a firsthand view of the destruction caused by the tidal waves, allowing for a better appreciation of the challenges faced by affected residents. He added that the President also inspected the Agavedzi Sea Defence Project, where work is reported to be far advanced, expressing optimism about its completion and continued support for coastal protection efforts.

The delegation further paid homage to the Awomefia of the Anlo State, Torgbui Sri III, a move Mr Tanko described as reinforcing the strong relationship between government and traditional authorities.

He conveyed the appreciation of the people, chiefs, and elders of the Volta Region to the President for his commitment to their welfare and development. While acknowledging the assurances given to safeguard the coastline and prevent further destruction, Mr Tanko appealed for sustained and increased support to enhance protection, restoration, and long-term development in the affected communities.

He reaffirmed that, together with regional authorities, traditional leaders, Members of Parliament, District Chief Executives, and Assembly Members, they remain grateful for the President’s continued dedication to the Volta Region and the nation as a whole.
