The Adabraka District Court has fined a driver 50 penalty units, equivalent to GH¢600, for careless and inconsiderate driving that resulted in the injury of a passenger.

Evans Amankwa admitted that he drove carelessly and negligently, causing harm to Edmund Wisdom Azumah Kwaku, the passenger.

Giving the facts, Inspector Irene Sackey said that on February 2, 2026, at about 2207 hours, Amankwa was in charge of a Daewoo Matiz Saloon car with registration number GW 920-20, travelling from Lapaz towards Kasoa.

On reaching a section of the road at the McCarthy Hill Traffic Light whilst moving from the service lane to link the highway, he did not exercise due care and, in the process, entered the middle lane.

As a result, an articulated truck from the Odorkor direction ran into the rear of the car. The impact pushed the vehicle into the opposite lane and crushed it into a trailer from the Kasoa direction, the court heard.

The driver and the passenger of the Daewoo Matiz sustained injuries and were rushed to the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Hospital for treatment.

After the investigation, he was charged with the offences to appear before court, Inspector Sackey said, adding that he paid for the medical expenses of the passenger.
