Court Grants Bail to Trader Accused of Beating Woman at NPP Event

How a Manager’s Suspicion Unraveled a Shocking GH¢137K Theft at Samatex

A 45-year-old trader accused of physically attacking a woman has been granted bail in the amount of GHC15,000.00 by the Kaneshie District Court Two. The man, identified as Perry Ohene Darko, appeared before the court on an assault charge, although no plea was recorded during the hearing.

As part of the bail conditions, the court ordered that Darko must provide two sureties, both of whom must reside within the court’s jurisdiction. One of the sureties must be a civil servant, and this must be properly verified. The case has been adjourned to August 15, 2025, when Darko is expected to return to court.

The prosecution requested that, along with the bail, the accused be placed under a bond to ensure he maintains good conduct. This came after the defense made a plea for bail, which was not challenged by the prosecution.

Darko’s lawyer assured the court that his client resides within the area and has dependable individuals willing to serve as sureties. He also emphasized that the accused is committed to appearing in court whenever required.

According to the case details, both the accused and the complainant, Madam Doris Gyamfua Asabea, are traders who support the New Patriotic Party (NPP). On June 25, 2025, the two were present at a party event held at the NPP headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra. Following the event, a confrontation took place after Darko questioned Madam Asabea about a video circulating on social media that allegedly showed her making derogatory remarks about the party’s General Secretary.

The disagreement quickly escalated, resulting in Darko reportedly assaulting her. Madam Asabea later reported the incident to the police and was issued a medical form for treatment. Investigations led to Darko’s arrest, although he denied the accusation in his statement to police.

Nonetheless, eyewitness accounts supported the complainant’s claims, leading to Darko being charged and brought before the court.
